Ringforts and cashels in North Sligo

County Sligo has many well-preserved ringforts, raths and cashels dating from the early Christian period, and no doubt many were used well into medieval times.

Ringforts are circular structures, typically about 30 meters in diameter. They were used as homesteads and dwelling places for farming communities. There are a large number of these monuments in the Cliffoney area.
